Imagine yourself in the hardest math or science course you’ve been in. You’re trying to do the assignments, struggling with the homework. But this time: you don’t have access to the essential vocabulary for that subject. For the nearly 2 million deaf and hard of hearing students in America, that is their reality.

This causes them to pursue STEM careers at shockingly lower rates than their peers. It also prevents them from self-advocating in the medical system. Deaf and Hard of Hearing students have almost no tools to help them learn STEM vocabulary.

Our team is developing a first-of-its-kind app that teaches Deaf students STEM words. For any STEM subject, students can play mini-games that teach them ASL vocabulary. They will also have access to a high-quality video gallery of signs to reference. Teachers can track their student’s progress as they have fun learning these powerful new ASL words.

Hey guys! I’m a junior majoring in computer science and minoring in mathematics. I am part of the CS team for ASL Aspire. On-campus I am a part of Women in Engineering, Society of Women in Engineering, and Phi Sigma Rho. In my free time I love to play basketball and craft 🙂
